Originally, Lindsay Ellis started Heiress Salon & Boutique to make women look and feel their best. But as the salon evolved and word of this legendary styling service got out, both women and men sought to be treated with such care. Now, a dozen years later, Heiress Salon & Boutique is filled with both female and male clients, as well as some of the most creative and passionate stylists.

For Lindsay Ellis, her career may have officially started 12 years ago when she opened Heiress Salon & Boutique on Front Street, Penticton, but the love of all things business and beauty had begun much earlier.

“I have always loved hair, and I have always pictured myself in the beauty industry,” said Lindsay.

This organic love and interest led her away from her hometown of Penticton to attend John Casablanca College in Vancouver, B.C. During this time, Lindsay spent six years working through many different college programs, learning about herself and gaining the courage to go in many different directions until she found her calling, business.

Once Lindsay had her “aha!” moment, she completed her business administration diploma from the British Columbia of Technology in Burnaby, B.C.

“Business was something that inspired the other side of my creative energy,” said Lindsay. “I loved seeing my ideas come to life.”

Some people might even say that Lindsay wakes up with new ideas daily and wants to pull the trigger on all of them.

“That’s because I’m fortunate in my life, to have loving friends, family and mentors who help direct these ideas into tangible resources.”

That wasn’t always the case. In fact, Penticton’s Face of Beauty once struggled with beauty and hair as an occupational choice, feeling like she had more to give to this world than doing hair.

“Looking back on it, straight out of high school I hoped to become a lawyer or something that had more credibility to it,” confessed Lindsay. “I'm sorry to all hairdressers out there, but the stereotype behind our career hasn't always been very optimistic.”

Fighting to change that persona, Lindsay battled with the thought that her father wanted more to brag about to his friends, than his daughter being a hairdresser...but little did Lindsay know, this career would bring out the best in her.

“I have surprised many and disappointed no one; my dad couldn't have been more supportive or more proud of my accomplishments.”

After reflecting on her former feeling of confliction, Lindsay now praises her mentors, colleagues, hair gurus and life long friends who inspired her to continue doing what she loved.

“Having the right people, tools and knowledge behind me have been very rewarding, and I love that I have Heiress and others around to hold me accountable and challenge me every single day.”

Inspired to continue moving forward while doing her own mentoring and coaching, Lindsay’s goal remains the same, to ensure everyone looks and feels their best.

As the team at Heiress Salon & Boutique go into each and every day with a positive outlook, Lindsay likes to keep it light and fun to keep the momentum going. “It may sound like I'm a severe go-getter, which I am; however, I enjoy doing the go-getting with a sarcastic and fun approach.”

“Lastly, I want to mention how much my mom has supported me through my process from the start, she’s another one of my cheerleaders,” concluded Lindsay. “If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

“To all my family, my kids and dear friends that have helped me in more ways than I can list, I have nothing but gratitude for all of you.”
